Renaissance Salutes Two Flags on Veteran's Day
The Montclair middle school also debuted a new flag, bearing the school logo.

This past Veterans Day, students, faculty and staff at Renaissance at Rand Middle School gathered at the flagpole to salute the American flag in honor of Veteran’s Day and celebrate a new school flag being raised at the staff.
They recited the Pledge of Allegiance, sang “God Bless America” and paused to talk about the significance of Veteran’s Day.
Principal Barbara Weller then announced the unveiling of the school’s official flag saying, “We have our very own flag which the eighth grade class of 2014 bought us as their gift to the school.”

Renaissance at Rand Get a New Logo
Back in 2010, the Rand building became home to middle schoolers under the moniker “Renaissance at Rand.” A new logo for the school was being developed by Renaissance art teacher Joyce Korotkin for a banner for last year’s graduation and to be used as letterhead, but social studies teacher Rodney Jackson was thinking bigger.

“I saw that Mount Hebron Middle School had a flag of their own and thought, we have to have one too,” he said.
The logo features two Rs back-to-back, resembling the shape of a lotus, which was Korotkin’s concept.
“We wanted something elegant and simple,” said Korotkin. “The lotus is the symbol for Renaissance. A remarkable flower, it can thrive in the most difficult environment, just like children. Every child has the ability to grow, thrive and flower.”
