S2G's Montclair Lit Fest To Feature Authors From Around The World

Join authors from around the globe for Succeed2gether's Montclair Literary Festival 'Global Voices' special series of events in March 2021.

This year, Succeed2gether’s Montclair Literary Festival is Going Global, with authors speaking about their books from international locales, including Ireland, Spain, Dubai, South Korea and Barbados.

The special series of events Global Voices will open with an online talk on March 13 at 4 p.m. by New York Times bestselling Cameroonian-American author Imbolo Mbue, who will speak about her new book, How Beautiful We Were. She’ll be in conversation with New York Times book editor Elisabeth Egan. The ticket price is $30 and includes a copy of Mbue’s book (value $28). The first 50 people to sign up receive a signed copy. On Saturday, March 20 at 7 p.m., CNN primetime host Don Lemon will be talking about his new book This Is The Fire: What I Say to My Friends About Racism with MSNBC political analyst and host of The ReidOut, Joy-Ann Reid. After a full afternoon of free events starting at midday, the last Global Voices event will take place on Sunday March 21 at at 7 p.m. with acclaimed Scottish actor Alan Cumming in conversation with Scottish-American writer Douglas Stuart, about Stuart’s Booker-Prize winning novel, Shuggie Bain. Tickets are $20 and include a signed copy of the book, or $10 to attend the online event only. Tickets here bit.ly/shuggie320.

Other featured authors include former U.S. and U.K. poet laureates Billy Collins and Andrew Motion, Irish author Kevin Barry (Night Boat to Tangier) talking about his new book of short stories, That Old Country Music, Avni Doshi talking about her Booker-prize finalist debut novel Burnt Sugar, a panel with Korean-American authors speaking about their novels, a talk with Spanish-language authors, and a panel with Caribbean authors, including Cherie Jones How The One-Armed Sister Sweeps Her House, among many others. All these events are free.

The fifth annual Festival is planned for Saturday October 2, 2021, with in-person and online events.

The Festival is a program of Succeed2gether, a non-profit organization that addresses unequal access to educational resources by providing free, high-quality enrichment and academic programs to children in need from Essex County and surrounding New Jersey communities. Succeed2gether launched its Montclair Literary Festival in 2017 to promote literacy and reading for all, and to celebrate reading, literature, and Montclair’s vibrant and diverse literary scene.
