Sales Glorious Sales

A walk around Montclair reveals loads of deals for bargain hunters this weekend.

Summer may be the best time in the world for walking—and shopping. Walk around Montclair this week and you'll be confronted with ubiquitous "Sale" signs adorning almost every store window. And if a store isn't offering a sale? I'd walk on by. There are simply too many bargains to take advantage of right now.

For example, with three children, I love everything about Little Shoebox in Upper Montclair—except for the prices. But when I checked out their sale on Friday I discovered that brands such as Nine West, Kenneth Cole, and others had been marked down by 50 percent. In other words, a $42 pair of shoes is now only $21. The bad news: Crocs and Converses are not on sale. Indeed, the woman behind the counter remarked that "Crocs absolutely never go on sale."

Nearby, Crookhorn's Menswear at 242 Bellevue Avenue had a half-priced sale, as did the Over The Moon children's clothing store at 619 Valley Road. Hip Chic at 195 Bellevue Avenue had signs boasting a 30 percent off sale. At the same time, Williams-Sonoma's annual summer sale at 630 Valley Road brought 25 percent off selected dinnerware as well as 20 percent off certain pots and pans. A semi-annual sale also is ongoing at Tesori at 618 Valley Road, reaping all sorts of bargains on gorgeous linens.

And there are still other deals to be had as well no matter what the time of year. At Classic Cleaners at 199 Bellevue Avenue, cleaning is 10 percent off on Wednesdays. A bit further afield—but worth the trip—is Home Wines and Liquors at 360 Bloomfield Avenue in Verona. Every Monday and Tuesday, you can buy a case of wine and get 20 percent off. Can't beat that!
