Spending in Montclair was just above the state average at $13,900 per child in 2009-2010.

The report offers specifics in a wide range of areas.

For example, the average class size at Montclair High School is 22.7 compared with a state average of 18.2. The school day at MHS is seven hours and 18 minutes compared with a state average of six hours and 53 minutes.

MHS graduated 98.5% of its class last year; the statewide average is 94.7%.

According to self-reported data, 69.6% of those graduates planned to attend a four-year college, while 12.1% planned to attend a two-year college. “Undecided” accounted for 13.1% percent.

The number of students per administrator at MHS is 158.3. The number of students per teacher is 10.3. State averages are 178.5 and 10.8 respectively.

According to the Department of Education, one of its goals is to increase school- and district-level accountability for educational progress by communicating useful information to members of the public to be used in measuring how well their schools are doing. The New Jersey School Report Card has provided the public with information about every school in New Jersey since 1995 when the Legislature mandated the annual accountability report.

The annual report includes financial information from every school district and data on graduation rates, faculty experience, and standardized test results. There are also details about how each school stacks up against federal No Child Left Behind requirements.
