Thieves Caught After Trying to Run From Officers, Police Say

Pair arrested after shoplifting incident at Urban Outfitters, according to report.

Two shoplifters were caught after trying to run from officers last week, police said.

Duwan Thwreatt, 26, of Newark, and Lamonica Hill, 26, of Irvington, were each charged with shoplifting and resisting arrest.

According to police, officers were dispatched to the Urban Outfitters store on South Park Street for a report of a shoplifting incident on July 2.

Officers observed one of the thieves running away as they arrived on the scene, police said. The officer chased Thwreatt ran down Church Street, westbound toward Trinity Place before being apprehended on the steps of Christ Church, police said.

Hill was identified as an accomplice and was arrested at the scene, police said. According to police, Hill resisted arrested and pushed the officers who were trying to handcuff her.

Thwreatt was also found to have an outstanding warrant out of Newark for $437.
