Tropical Storm Chris will develop into a hurricane that won't hit land in New Jersey. But you should expect to feel some of the storm's impacts, and we've broken them down, day-by-day.

Those impacts could be potentially troubling for beachgoers who have already been dealing with rip currents throughout the summer season.

Seventeen people have died in water related deaths since May, and another swimmer is reportedly missing in Atlantic City.

The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for eastern Monmouth, and Atlantic counties and coastal Cape May, Atlantic and Ocean counties in advance of the storm.

Here is what is expected to happen:

Tuesday

  • A moderate risk for the formation of dangerous rip currents continues along the Jersey Shore and Delaware beaches.
  • Chris is expected to drift this afternoon while strengthening into a hurricane, then accelerate northeast.
  • Sunny during the morning and afternoon, with a high near 89. Southwest wind 5 to 9 mph.
  • A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms between 9 p.m. and midnight. Partly cloudy, with a low around 67. South wind 5 to 10 mph going west after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.
  • Beachgoers at the U.S. Northeast beaches may also notice an uptick in surf activity as the storm passes by.

Wednesday

  • Long-period swells from Chris will cause an enhanced risk for the development of dangerous rip currents.
  • Hurricane Chris will move Wednesday into the evening, then transition to a strong post-tropical storm.
  • A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. Mostly sunny, with a high near 84. North wind 6 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.
  • Seas may become too dangerous for operators of small craft. Cruise ships may have to alter their courses around the storm, according to AccuWeather.
  • As the high waves hit the coastline, there can be minor incidents of overwash and beach erosion.
  • Locally showers and thunderstorms can further plague outdoor and vacation plans.

Thursday

  • Long-period swells from Chris will continue to cause an enhanced risk for the development of dangerous rip currents.
  • Partly cloudy, with a low around 66. Northeast wind 3 to 7 mph.
