Vanguard Theater In Montclair Registering For Summer Programs

MONTCLAIR, NJ — The Vanguard Theater Company in Montclair has opened registration for two summer programs for summer 2021.

Interested parents are invited to attend a Zoom meeting on Thursday, March 18 at 7:30 p.m. Learn more or register here.

“After proceeding virtually last summer, we are excited to return to our in-person programming this year,” said Janeece Freeman Clark, founding artistic director at the nonprofit theater group.

“Recent grant funding has helped us hire a COVID safety coordinator, who is guiding us on opening our day and sleepaway camps safely,” Clark said.

  • VTC’s Musical Theater Day camp for ages 7 to 12 returns July 12 to July 30, culminating in an outdoor performance of Willy Wonka Kids. Campers will have an option to add on a four-day week at the start, July 6 to 9, to brush up on their musical theater skills. Camp will take place in Vanguard’s new theater at 180 Bloomfield Avenue, with outdoor play time at Glenfield Park.
  • Summerstock Sleepaway for ages 12 to 19, will be at Camp Vacamas in West Milford, NJ, under 45 minutes from Montclair, July 25 to August 15. Modeled on the pro-sport "bubble" prototype, everyone will remain on-site for the duration of camp, with no outside travel or visitors permitted. Shows under consideration are Les Miz, Urinetown, Children of Eden, Once on this Island, and SpongeBob the Musical.
