Villalobos In Montclair Is Closing, But Something New Is Brewing
After temporarily closing down, the Mexican restaurant is moving on. But something new is already on the menu for its owner.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — One of Montclair’s favorite Mexican restaurants won’t be reopening after “temporarily” shutting its doors earlier this month. But something new is already on the menu for the space that currently houses Villalobos, its owner says.
On Thursday, chef and owner Adam Rose announced that Villalobos has made the “bittersweet” decision not to reopen after suspending service in mid-May.
For nearly seven years, the South Fullerton Avenue restaurant has been a go-to taco joint for many Montclair residents. And that’s part of why it hurts to see its time fade, Rose said.

“First and foremost, I want to thank all our guests for making our seven years here so incredibly gratifying. Your support, especially during this very challenging time, has shown us what a special place a neighborhood restaurant can be. And our team deserves all my heartfelt appreciation for bringing their energy, their skills and their sense of hospitality every day.”
But there’s some good news to soften the blow, Rose added.

“Fortunately, I will be able to bring a new project to life in this room, on this block, with new partners at Montclair Hospitality Group, good friends and creators of Ani Ramen House,” Rose said.
“I can’t say anything more about it now — but I can’t wait to open the doors again,” he teased.
