Voters In Montclair, Newark Rally Against Trump: 2020 Election

MONTCLAIR, NJ — A groundswell of voters in Montclair and Newark have been making it abundantly clear who they’re casting ballots for in 2020: anyone but Donald Trump.

On Saturday, Suburban Moms Against Re-Electing Trump (SMART) led a march in Montclair, which organizers said was intended to “send a message to President Donald Trump that his practices and policies are out of touch with the needs of today's voters.”

Clad in face masks, a large group of people peacefully gathered in Rand Park to support of issues such as health care, reproductive rights and gender equality.

Signs bashing Trump were the rallying cry of the day, vastly outnumbering those bearing the name of his opponent, former Vice President Joe Biden. Slogans included:

  • “Democracy Is On The Ballot”
  • “Vote Him Out, Then Lock Him Up”
  • “America Can’t Be Great Without Freedom And Equality For All”
  • “You Can’t Fix Stupid But You Can Vote Smart”

Meanwhile, in anticipation of what is “likely to be a contentious national election scene,” the People’s Organization For Progress (POP) is spearheading a march and rally to condemn the Trump Administration in Newark on Saturday, Oct. 3.

Participants plan to assemble at noon at the Lincoln Monument, 12 Springfield Avenue. Organizers are asking people to wear face masks and gloves, and to social distance.

Former U.S. Senate candidate and POP founder Lawrence Hamm said the call to action is “simple and clear”: Trump must go.

“We haven’t seen a president so polarizing and divisive and so directly threatening to all of the hard-fought gains of our struggle,” said Hamm, who previously endorsed U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders for president and recently threw his support behind Biden and his running mate, Kamala Harris.
