Wall Street Journal Features Montclair Resident Paula Kaufmann In A Video Series
Paula Kaufmann works for Emilcott in Chatham.

The Wall Street Journal has selected long-time Montclair resident Paula Kaufmann, EHS Director for Emilcott in Chatham, as an example of an industrial hygienist as part of a career-focused Web site video series for recent college graduates.
Kaufmann, a CIH (Certified Industrial Hygienist), is shown in the video auditing health and safety practices at a New Jersey manufacturer, and is interviewed extensively regarding her career path and the rewards of being an industrial hygienist. The WSJ video segment, developed by Reporter Alexandra Cheney, is called "Career Paths: How Industrial Hygienists Save Lives" and can be seen at www.emilcott.com.
"I like what I do because I can make a difference in someone's life," stated Kaufmann who, as a seasoned EHS (Environmental, Health and Safety) consultant, personally visits 10 to 15 worksites a year and supervises a technical staff that develops EHS strategies for companies across the globe to protect workers and meet compliance. "Whether it is a mom-and-pop business or Fortune 100 corporation, my goal is to protect workers while developing strategies to keep business moving," she said.

Emilcott was approached by the Wall Street Journal to be a part of their career video series based upon the company's efforts to develop IH job opportunities and awareness. The Emilcott hiring team has focused on recruiting young talent from scientific backgrounds for entry-level positions, internships and co-ops. One recent employee, a junior college chemistry student, has been accepted into Stanford University's environmental engineering program (http://www.emilcott.com/news/shownews.asp?NewsID=180&ntype=13). Additionally, Emilcott's blog (www.ehswire.com) has weekly posts written by staff who describe their on-the-job experiences including "What is a Certified Industrial Hygienist" and "Industrial Hygiene…It's a 24 Hour Job!"
Bruce Groves, President of Emilcott, stated: "The recognition of industrial hygiene as a possible career option by the Wall Street Journal is very timely as regulatory enforcement tightens and the public's awareness about occupational hazards grows. We encourage graduates with backgrounds in environmental sciences or policy, biology or chemistry to enter this field."
