MONTCLAIR, NJ — Montclair officials discussed the impact of the latest U.S. coronavirus relief package, also known as the American Rescue Plan, during a virtual town hall last week.

The event was attended by Montclair Mayor Sean Spiller, Essex County Commissioner Brendan Gill, Luke McGowan, senior policy advisor to the White House Office of Intergovernmental Affairs, and Zakiya Smith Ellis, chief policy advisor to Gov. Phil Murphy.

"Over the past year, we have had to face unprecedented challenges," Spiller wrote prior to the town hall. "The pandemic has extracted an unimaginable toll on too many Americans and further exposed the struggles of working and middle-class families."

"Thanks to President Joe Biden, our senators and members of Congress, help is now on the way in the form of the American Rescue Plan," Spiller continued. "The American Rescue Plan is one of the most ambitious and progressive social programs enacted into law in our lifetimes. It provides support to families and individuals, small businesses, state and local governments and much more."
