Week in Review: Fire, Burglaries, Battle For Charter School

In case you missed them, here are the top five stories from the past seven days in Montclair. 

Montclair Hit By Another Round Of Burglaries

Montclair was hit by another round of burglaries last week including two burglaries that were reported on Sunday, one by a resident on Edgecliff Road.

Quest Founders Fight On For Charter School In Montclair

Tracey Williams, one of the founders of the proposed Quest Academy Charter High School, said Monday that she and others have filed an appeal with the New Jersey Supreme Court to challenge the Superior Court's recent denial of their fifth application to open the school in Montclair. 

16-Year-Old Bloomfield Girl Killed In Car Crash

A 16-year-old Bloomfield High School soccer player died in a car crash that left four others injured. Christina Lembo was seated in the back of a 2007 Honda Civic when it was involved in a car crash with a 2000 Chevrolet Camaro at about 11:10 p.m. yesterday at the intersection of Broughton Avenue and Walter Street in Bloomfield, according to a press release from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office. Lembo was transported to University Hospital in Newark, and was pronounced dead a short time later, the release said.

Fire Erupts In Home On Llewellyn Road

A fire broke out last week in a two-story home on Llewellyn Road. At about 5 p.m., at least three Montclair Fire Department fire engines and several emergency vehicles rushed to extinguish a fire on Llewellyn Road. Police and fire departments had the street cordoned off between Clinton and South Mountain avenues.
