What Is UP With The Duckermans?
These Glenfield 8th graders are shaking up Montclair's music scene.

Â
The Duckermans are an amazing a capella group made up of four singers going into the 8th grade at Glenfield Middle School. Their manager, Melanie Noel Flowers, is also going into the 8th grade. Flowers recently answered a few questions from Montclair Patch about the quartet of dedicated performers.

A) Nathan Farrell, Georgia Bandler, Austin Klewan, and Sakinah Balija-Toure. There's also an equipment manager and then there's me. I'm the manager. Everyone is going to be in the 8th grade at Glenfield.
Q) How did the group come together?

A) They all met in the band [at Glenfield] last year. Each person plays various instruments. [For example, Farrell plays oboe, flute, clarinet, and saxophone, and also writes songs.]
Q) What do you do as their manager?
A)Â I find them gigs and try to coach their practicing. I'm not a singer myself but I can tell them what's good and what's not good. If they get off topic, I encourage them to focus and to practice.
Q) Where have they had gigs?
A) They've played at fundraisers and at Aunt Jean's Toys. I'm trying to get them a gig at Nauna's right now. I need to call the owner.
Q) How often does the group practice?
A) They usually get together once or twice a week, depending on whether or not they have a gig coming up.
Q) What kind of music do they play?Â
A) They have written their own songs but have not performed them yet. They play songs by popular performers like Adele and One Direction and others.
Q) How did they get the name The Duckermans?
A) Another student in brass and woodwinds named them The Duckermans.
In short, Flowers emphasized that members of The Duckermans are dedicated singers who are eager to share their talent with everyone.Â
