— Remembering 9/11
There are two opportunities nearby to participate in events marking the 9/11 anniversary. First, the Township of Montclair will hold its annual ceremony of remembrance on September 11 to honor and reflect on those who perished in the 2001 World Trade Center attack. The service, which will be held at the Watchung Plaza 9-11 Memorial, will begin at 8:30 a.m. For more information about the ceremony, please contact the Department of Recreation and Cultural Affairs at 973-509-4915.

Second, County Executive DiVincenzo invites the public to "Essex County Remembers," a solemn ceremony at the Essex County Eagle Rock September 11 Memorial that will mark the ninth anniversary of the tragedies in New York, Washington, DC, and Pennsylvania. A brief program with family members who lost a loved one in the tragedies and clergy members from diverse religious faiths will be held at 8 a.m. Memorial wreaths will be laid at the monument and a new American flag will be raised. A string quartet will perform reverent selections of music at the memorial site from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will be held at the Essex County Eagle Rock September 11 Memorial at Eagle Rock Reservation in West Orange.

A Fine Arts and Crafts Fair will be held in Anderson Park on September 11 and 12 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. This juried show free to the public, featuring more than 185 fine artists and crafts people — as well as food vendors — is sure to draw lots of people, as always. Stop by the Friends of Anderson Park booth near Bellevue and North Mountain avenues and try your luck on the raffle baskets. For more details, go here.
— Listening To Music
The group Parents Who Rock will hold its annual fundraising festival on September 11 from noon to 6 p.m. The event takes place at 72 High Street, at the corner of Cedar and High streets. Although the event is free, donations will be collected for the Youth Consultation Service, which helps to give more than 400 Essex County kids in group homes support so they can have a better chance at life. The fundraiser will help raise money to provide each child with a birthday gift card. For more information, go here.
Students from The School of Rock Montclair will present a concert at Just Jake's entitled "Keep On Rockin' In The Free World" at 5 p.m. on September 11. All proceeds from the show will benefit the Montclair Ambulance Unit (MVAU). For more information, go here.
— Going Shopping
Experience the Village of Upper Montclair on September 11 in a whole new way from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the annual Upper Montclair Sidewalk Sale. Find great deals at all of your favorite downtown stores. Families will enjoy fun activities and entertainment throughout the day. For more information, go here. Make sure to look for the Alan Elder School fundraising table in front of the Charbroil Restaurant during the sidewalk sale. In an effort to raise money for a school in Africa, students will have free tattoos and Alan Elder School bracelets for sale ($2 donation).
— Watching Sports
Check out the first game played by the Montclair High School Football Team on September 11. The team's opponent will be Union City. For more information, go here.
