Woman Hit With Metal Pipe In Montclair, 2 Cops Assaulted: Police

A woman was attacked with a metal pipe after she confronted a stranger smashing her cousin's vehicle in Montclair, police said.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — A woman was attacked with a metal pipe after she confronted a stranger smashing her cousin’s vehicle in Montclair last week. A pair of officers were also assaulted during the encounter, authorities said.

According to the Montclair Police Department, patrol units responded to Mission Street at 1:24 a.m. on Friday after getting a report about two women fighting in the street.

One of the women told officers that the incident began when she was at home, and spotted an unknown woman shattering the front and rear windshields of her cousin’s vehicle, which was parked on the street nearby.

When she went out to confront the woman – Jannah Asante, 24, of East Orange – she was attacked with a metal pipe, police said.

Asante allegedly assaulted two officers while being arrested, kicking one and spitting in the face of another, authorities said.

Emergency responders transported the victim to Mountainside Hospital for injuries to her face, authorities said.

Police charged Asante with aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and two counts of aggravated assault on a police officer.
