Work On 5-Story Montclair Apartment Building Set To Start This Summer: The Vestry

The 46-unit apartment complex on Bloomfield Avenue in Montclair will be located on the former site of Mount Carmel Holy Church.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — Developers of The Vestry, a collection of 46 rental homes at 147 Bloomfield Avenue in Montclair, say they have received clearance to start work on what they are calling a “stylish new rental building that will bring designer, industrial-inspired apartments and amenities to the eastern gateway to Bloomfield Avenue.”

According to a Thursday news release from The Vestry’s developers - Livingston-based Sterling Properties and Montclair-based Greenwood Development - initial site work at the five-story apartment building is expected to begin in early summer 2017.

The Vestry – which will also include about 1,600 square feet of ground floor retail space - will be located at the former site of the Mount Carmel Holy Church. Editor's note: Not to be confused with the nearby Our Lady Of Mt. Carmel Church on Pine Street.

According to a news release, each of the partner developers has left a previous footprint in Montclair; Sterling Properties introduced the Bellclair apartments and Greenwood Development was responsible for the conversion of the historic Wellmont Theater into a concert venue.

Designed by Montclair-based Sionas Architects, The Vestry will include an exterior red brick and glass design, and offer a mix of studio, one- two- and three-bedroom homes.
