Those words from baseball legend and Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient Yogi Berra kicked off his short-but-sweet acceptance speech at his induction to the National Baseball Hall of Fame, which took place on Aug. 7, 1972. (Learn more about his baseball career here)
Berra’s short speech befitted the quipster, a former Montclair resident who became known for infamous one-liners such as “It ain't over 'til it's over” and “You can observe a lot just by watching.”

Berra’s concluding statement at his Hall of Fame speech? “I hope that when I’m through with this game, I’ll have put something back.”
