14 Moorestown Children In Need Attend Day Camp Through FEP

There are 15 children on the scholarship list, and one is taking guitar lessons at Conservatory Without Walls.

MOORESTOWN, NJ — Once again, the Friends Enrichment Program (FEP) for financially disadvantaged Moorestown children is working to ensure that every child who is enrolled in the FEP program has the chance to attend summer camp or participate in other life-enhancing programs of children’s activities.

A total of 15 children ranging in age from seven to 15 are on the FEP scholarship list this summer. This includes four children enrolled in residential camps, either at YMCA of the Pines (Camp Matollionequay) or Camp Haluwasa; and 10 who are enrolled in day camp at Perkins Art Camp or YMCA Camp Worth. Two of the children enrolled in day camp are also taking piano lessons at Perkins Center for the Arts. Additionally, one child who opted not to go to summer camp is taking guitar lessons at Conservatory Without Walls.

As in previous years, children active in the FEP school-year program of Sunday afternoon activities helped FEP raise money for scholarships through their participation in two FEP fundraisers: The Empty Bowl Dinner for which they made and painted one-of-a-kind ceramic bowls and the Music and Dance Medley, a celebration of youth to which they devoted hours of practice.

Other talented young people—three Moorestown Friends School Upper-School students and two Moorestown Starbucks employees—also performed at the medley which took place in the Dining Hall/Commons of Moorestown Friends school.

There were dancers, singers, pianists, gymnasts, a clarinetist, a shy fourth-grader who shared the reading of one of her short stories with another shy fourth-grader, and a Moorestown High School senior who delivered a moving account of her experience as a participant in FEP activities since she was eight years old.

Not to be overlooked was the grandmother of an FEP child who sang a duet with her seven-year-old granddaughter and went on to sing a solo as a tribute to FEP. From all accounts, the performers outdid themselves, enthralling their audience as they performed to one encore after another, FEP Chairperson Monqiue Begg said.
