Moorestown Celebrates Arbor Day 2021

Moorestown celebrated Arbor Day with a tree planting at Roberts School.

MOORESTOWN, NJ — This year’s Arbor Day Celebration was held at Roberts Elementary School, sponsored by the Moorestown Garden Club, the Tree Planting and Preservation Committee and Moorestown Township Public Schools.

Jean Pollock, President of Moorestown Garden Club, welcomed the community. Mayor Nicole Gillespie lead the Pledge of Allegiance and read the Town Council Proclamation. Mrs. Dishong’s Music Class performed “What a Wonderful World” and “Let it Grow.”

Marna Andrew, Garden Club, spoke about the history of Arbor Day. Gina Zegel and Karen Chigonis presented the Appearance Committee’s Appreciation Awards to Moorestown Department of Parks and Recreation and Moorestown Department of Public Works.

John Gibson, Chairman of the Tree Committee, spoke about our Tree City USA status. A Thank You performance was done by Robert’s 1st Grade.

Three trees, donated by Flagg’s Garden Center and the Garden Club were planted by MTPS Building & Grounds to replace four ash trees which were destroyed by Emerald Ash Borers.
The ceremony was held outside and was live-streamed to the children in the school.

Many thanks to the groups and individuals who participated and the parents, staff and community members who attended.

We love to hold this event at one of the schools, so the children are involved and learn to value our trees. As usual, the children stole the show, to the delight of those gathered and online!
