MOORESTOWN, NJ — “Frozen” was Disney’s biggest movie in years when it first came out in 2013. Now, children who fell in love with this classic have their first chance to act it out on the big stage.

The Moorestown Theater Company began auditioning for “Frozen Jr.” this week. Auditions continue Tuesday evening, 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., and reading is done by appointment only. Those looking to audition must register at the theater company's website ahead of time.

Three more sessions are set, including two on Friday, June 21, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.; and one on Friday, June 28, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. auditions are readings by appointment only. The 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. session on June 21 is a dance audition, and no appointment is needed.

At the vocal/reading audition, those auditioning will sing a song from the show for the character for which they would most like to be considered. These songs will not be reviewed, so those auditioning should come prepared, Artistic Director Mark Morgan said. These songs will be posted on the MTC Website. There will also do a cold reading from the script for the character for which those auditioning sing.

At the dance audition, those auditioning will learn a dance combination. Anyone who wants to be considered for a lead role must attend the dance audition and a vocal/reading audition. Anyone who is not auditioning for a lead role must attend a dance audition, but they don’t have to attend a vocal/reading audition.

Although auditions are underway, rehearsal won’t begin until September, and the show won’t be performed until December, according to Morgan.

“Kids know the show, but we want to give them a chance to memorize it all summer,” Morgan said.

The show will be for actors ages 6-18, but anyone who will be in college in the fall is ineligible. “Frozen: The Musical” is now playing on Broadway, and the show recently became available for community theaters and schools to perform. There was an invitation-only junior workshop for the show in February, and three actors from the Moorestown Theater Company were invited to participate.

“I saw the junior workshop, and I am thrilled to get a chance to direct this show,” Morgan said.
