Code Blue In Effect For 2 Nights In Burlington County

Temperatures were expected to drop into the mid 30s mid-day Tuesday.

Burlington County will be under a Code Blue Weather Emergency for the next two nights, county officials announced Tuesday morning. The emergency will be in effect from 7 p.m. on Tuesday through 7 a.m. on Wednesday, and from 7 p.m. Wednesday through 7 a.m. Thursday.

Officials will then review and assess upcoming weather forecasts. During normal business hours, public buildings are available as warming centers. For overnight shelter, individuals can call 856-764-6945, ext. 6128 or ext. 6122 for Emergency Shelter information.

"A Code Blue declaration is made in Burlington County when winter conditions pose a threat of serious harm or death to individuals without shelter," Burlington County Freeholder Director Tom Pullion said. "When a Code Blue is enacted it provides for short-term emergency sheltering.

“During a Code Blue declaration, we encourage residents to stay indoors in heated areas. Extreme cold weather can be just as dangerous as extremely hot weather. This is the time to watch out for those most vulnerable among us, especially children and older adults. Caution also should be taken with pets during extremely cold temperatures.”
