Couple With A Passion For Nutrition Find Home In Moorestown

Steven and Erica Koehl recently opened Moorestown Nutrition on Main Street.

MOORESTOWN, NJ — A couple with a passion for nutrition has finally found a home in Moorestown.

Steven and Erica Koehl have lived everywhere. They were both born in the Midwest, and Steven has been in the Air Force for 13 years.

They just want to help people through health and nutrition. In fact, it has been Erica’s passion to open a health store for a long time, her husband told Patch on Thursday.

That vision became a reality last month, when they opened Moorestown Nutrition at 115 West Main Street.

They’ve already seen support from the community, and they had their grand opening on Saturday. And they did it all in the middle of a health pandemic.

“My wife got the idea when I was stationed in Texas,” Steven Koehl said. “But we knew we were going to move soon.”

In the meantime, they mapped out exactly what they wanted their business to look like. He was relocated to Joint Base Dix-McGuire-Lakehurst, and they arrived in New Jersey in January.

At first, they were looking to open their business in Mount Laurel. Then, they came upon Main Street Moorestown.

“We thought, ‘this place is gorgeous,’” Koehl said. “We should go for it.”

They found an open location on Main Street. Then, the pandemic hit. Businesses shut down, but the Koehls weren’t going to be deterred.

“We were on the phone with town every day,” Koehl said. “People still have to eat, and they want to eat healthy more than anything.”

Moorestown Nutrition offers healthy protein shakes, energy teas, coffees and options for children. They mix the drinks in front of the customers, and the idea is to dine in or take out.

“It’s been a challenge adjusting,” Koehl said. “We wanted people to be able to come in and hang out for a couple of hours. Obviously, they can’t do that right now.”

But they do have an app, and offer curbside pickup. They have a four-person staff in addition to the Koehls, and they all wear gloves, masks and do deep cleaning.

“We’ve had a fantastic response from the community,” Koehl said. “Word-of-mouth has been amazing.”

Social media and other businesses have helped as well. The Koehls quickly learned that Moorestown is a tight-knit community that “supports small business in a big way.”

Steven, 32, was born in Ohio, and Erica, 33, was born in Illinois. They met in South Carolina. They’ve been all over, but don’t plan on moving their family of four again anytime soon. They have two children: 9-year-old Atticus and 3-year-old Brayden, and it sounds like they’ve found the place to fulfill their dream.

“We adore New Jersey,” Koehl said. “This has been the best location by far.”

Moorestown Nutrition is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and is closed on Sunday. It can be reached by phone at 609-850-8007.
