General Chemical & Supply has been in the custodial supplies business since 1965. In 2007, David McDonough purchased General Chemical and Supply from the original company owner. Even after 50 years, GCS continues to grow by keeping up with the latest innovations, providing superior customer service and, of course, its staff of experienced sales representatives.
In 2018, the company relocated to a 30,000-plus-square-foot facility located in Moorestown, New Jersey, housing its offices, a new showroom and a warehouse with over 10,000 different items.

Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Moorestown showroom has been open to the public in order to help area residences procure essential cleaning and sanitizing items including paper products. It continues serving schools, medical facilities and other essential businesses. As supply chains slowed down, GCS worked diligently with new suppliers to find resources that kept its customers supplied. GCS was also able to continue to supply PPE such as masks, gloves and gowns, as well as cleaning and sanitation products.

During the onslaught of the pandemic — when PPE was hard to find — GCS made weekly donations to local first responders including police, fire departments, EMTs and long-term care facilities, as well as the South Jersey Food Bank, allowing it to distribute to the underserved public. GCS continues to move forward to help during recovery and re-openings.

On July 15, GCS held a COVID-19 Forum to help those (particularly NJ & PA School Districts) with sanitation education and product knowledge, in order to safely prepare for re-opening. Equipment, products and techniques were demonstrated specific to addressing new standards in sanitizing needs. There was also a very informative COVID-19 Safety presentation by Health, Wellness and Safety Specialist Laurie Holmes.
GCS remains dedicated to health and safety education, offering area education facilities consultations on best practices and products for optimal safety.
