About Half Of Moorestown Residents Are Vaccinated Against COVID

MOORESTOWN, NJ — Almost all of Moorestown's seniors are fully vaccinated against the coronavirus, according to a new map launched by the state health department on Monday.

And although more than half of Moorestown's residents have been vaccinated, the township still has work to do in order to get 70 percent of all adults fully vaccinated, in line with state goals.

For the first time Monday, the New Jersey Department of Health released town-level data on COVID-19 vaccinations. The state's COVID-19 dashboard now reveals the percentage of all people, adults and seniors who have been partially or fully vaccinated in each city and town. In Moorestown, 51 percent of adults have been vaccinated against the coronavirus, according to the map. The percentage is higher when broken down to the 18-and-up age group, as 65 percent of those residents have been vaccinated.

It is much higher among seniors. According to the map, 84 percent of residents ages 65-and-older have been vaccinated.

New Jersey set a goal to fully vaccinate 70 percent of adults — 4.7 million people — by the end of June. About 3.6 million people in New Jersey have been fully vaccinated as of Monday afternoon.

All people 16 and older are eligible for vaccination in New Jersey. Sixteen- and 17-year-olds remain eligible for only the Pfizer vaccine. On Monday night, the White House announced that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) expanded Pfizer's emergency use authorization to that age group. It awaits approval from the CDC.

Earlier in the day Monday, Gov. Phil Murphy said the state would be ready once the vaccine was approved for use by students ages 12 to 15.
