Moorestown Baseball Team Falls In First Round Of Diamond Classic

Moorestown fell to Haddonfield, 8-4, in the first round of the Diamond Classic on Monday.

MOORESTOWN, NJ - The Moorestown High School baseball team jumped out to an early lead twice, but fell into a hole it could never recover from in the first round of the Joe Hartmann Diamond Classic on Monday.

As a result, No. 8 Haddonfield defeated No. 9 Moorestown, 8-4, in the first round of South Jersey’s unofficial championship tournament on Monday, nj.com reports.

Wyatt Atkinson and Nick Yedman were each 1-for-3 with an RBI for the Quakers, who scored two runs in the top of the second to take the lead. After the Bulldawgs tied the game in the bottom of the third, Moorestown reclaimed the lead in the top of the fourth.

Haddonfield took advantage of an error-ridden fifth-inning to tack on four runs, according to The Burlington County Times. Haddonfield never relinquished its lead.

Winning pitcher Dylan Heine tossed a complete game, fanning six batters and allowing eight hits. Heine, Cameron Caruso, Ryan Lynch, Chris Mariani and Matt Stamm each produced an RBI for Haddonfield.

Haddonfield will face No. 1 Cherry Hill West in the quarterfinals on Saturday, May 11, at Deptford, 10 a.m. The winner will play in a semifinal at 4 p.m. the same day. The final is set for Wednesday night, May 15, 6:30 p.m. at Eastern. To view the full bracket, visit nj.com.
