Moorestown Council To Interview Township Manager Candidates

Moorestown Council will hold two special, closed door meetings to interview candidates for township manager next week.

MOORESTOWN, NJ — Moorestown Council will interview candidates for the position of Township Manager during two closed session meetings next week.

Moorestown Council will hold special meetings at 6 p.m. on April 27 and 29, township officials announced. The interviews will be held in closed session, and no official action will be taken at either meeting.

The announcement doesn’t specify how many candidates will be interviewed, but Moorestown Mayor Nicole Gillespie said during the April 12 council meeting that the township has received 30 applications for the position.

Tom Merchel announced at the Jan. 25 meeting that he would be resigning from the position of Township Manager effective April 30. He also serves as the township’s Chief Financial Officer, and resigned after the council expressed concerns about his ability to handle two high-pressure positions.

“I can't say I disagree with them,” Merchel said at the time. “They left it up to me which position I want to serve in. As township manager I do well, but I don't wish to remain there.”
