Moorestown Friends Boys Soccer Team Claims South Jersey Title

Moorestown Friends captured its third sectional title in five years, and will play for a state title on Sunday.

MOORESTOWN, NJ — The Moorestown Friends School boys soccer team is the best in South Jersey. The team claimed that spot with a 4-1 win over Wardlaw-Hartridge in the NJSIAA Non-Public B South final on Thursday, the school announced.

Matt D’Ottavi scored twice in an eight-minute span to put the team up, 3-1, 12 minutes into the game, and Moorestown Friends never looked back. He also had an assist on the team’s final goal, which came off the foot of Astin Galanis in the second half.

Galanis had a hand in putting Moorestown Friends up early when he delivered a corner kick to Evan Schlotterbeck, who sent a header home for the first goal just three minutes into the game.

Goalie Mikey Paznokas made 10 saves on 18 shots faced to help give program its third sectional title in five years. Moorestown Friends improved to 17-5, setting a program record for number of wins in a season.

D’Ottavi scored four goals in Moorestown Friends’ 4-0 semifinal victory over Holy Cross. Galanis had two saves, and Schlotterbeck had another. Paznokas had five saves on 25 shots faced.

Moorestown Friends will face North Jersey Champion Gill St. Bernard’s for the state title on Sunday at Kean University.
