Moorestown Friends Girls Basketball Recovers From Tough Start

The Moorestown Friends School girls basketball team is 4-0 in January after starting the season 1-2, according to nj.com.

MOORESTOWN, NJ — After a slow start, the Moorestown Friends School girls basketball team has not lost a game this calendar year. The Moorestown High School boys basketball team is also humming along with a record of 6-1.

Moorestown Friends dropped two of their first three games of the 2019-20 season, but have turned things around to improve to 5-2 since the turn of the calendar, according to nj.com. The Foxes have won four straight.

It all started with a 48-34 win over Westtown, Pa. on Jan. 7. Veyoni Davis and Isabella Runyan each had a double double in the win. Davis had 24 points and 10 rebounds, and Runyan had 15 points and 11 rebounds.

The following day, Moorestown Friends picked up a 59-17 win at Academy New Church, Pa. behind 15 points from Davis and 11 by Runyan.

The Foxes picked up their third straight win over a Pennsylvania team and second straight in the Keystone State with a 43-34 come-from-behind victory over Germantown Friends. After falling behind 28-24 after three quarters, Moorestown Friends outscored their foes, 19-6, in the final frame. Runyan had 21 points and 10 rebounds in the win, and Davis added 15 points.

The most recent victory was a 61-39 win over Haddon Heights. Davis had 27 points, followed by Runyan with 11 and Roni Kennedy had 10 points.

Moorestown Friends looks to keep its success against Pennsylvania teams alive when it returns to the court at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 14, at home against Shipley, Pa.

Moorestown is now 3-0 since dropping its first game of the season. After losing to Westampton Tech, the Quakers rebounded with a win over Notre Dame.

From there, Moorestown picked up road wins over Pennsauken and Trenton Catholic. Hayden Greer (28) and Evan Francisco (23) each scored more than 20 points in a 79-61 win over Pennsuaken, according to nj.com. Logan Jagodzinski lead the Quakers with 24 points in a 59-55 win over Trenton Catholic.

Moorestown returns to the court at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday night, Jan. 14, at home against Medford Tech.
