Moorestown Looks To Fill Board Of Education Vacancy

Anyone interested in being appointed to the school board can apply by July 9. There will be a special election in November.

MOORESTOWN, NJ — The Moorestown Public School District’s Board of Education is now accepting applications for a vacancy on the board, according to a post on the district’s website.

Alexandria Law is resigning for personal reasons unrelated to the school district, according to Superintendent of Schools Scott McCartney.

Anyone interested in joining the board is asked to hand deliver a cover letter and resume to the district office by July 9 for consideration.

Those items can be dropped off any time between 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, at the administration building, 803 North Stanwick Road in Moorestown.

They should be addressed to James Heiser, CPA, School Business Administrator/Board Secretary. Whoever is appointed will begin serving immediately.

A special election for the vacancy will be held in November, and the winner of that election will be seated in January. The person appointed to the board may run in the election, but they will not be required to.

Anyone interested in being considered for the position must meet all of the following qualifications:

  • Must be a citizen of the United States;
  • Must be a resident of Moorestown Township, and must have been a resident of Moorestown Township for at least one year;
  • Must be able to read and write;
  • Must be registered to vote in Moorestown Township, and not disqualified from voting under state law;
  • Must not have any interest in any contract with, or claim against, the Moorestown Township Board of Education;
  • Satisfy a criminal history background check pursuant to N.J.S.A. 18A:12-1; and
  • Cannot concurrently hold office as a member of the governing body of Moorestown Township.
