Moorestown School Board Appoints Interim Superintendent
Leonard Fitts was appointed interim superintendent of Moorestown schools Tuesday night. The search for a permanent super is also underway.

MOORESTOWN, NJ — Leonard Fitts was unanimously appointed by the Board of Education to serve as the interim superintendent in the Moorestown Public School District Tuesday night.
The Board of Education appointed Fitts with a 9-0 vote during its virtual meeting. It also unanimously appointed Illinois-based Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates to lead the search for a permanent superintendent.
“He’s a true gentleman and educator, and the school district is in great hands,” outgoing Superintendent Scott McCartney said.

Fitts will assume the role of interim superintendent effective July 1. He will be in attendance during the board’s next meeting, on June 15, according to Board of Education President Caryn Shaw.
He will serve through June 30, 2022, or until the board selects a permanent superintendent. That search will begin immediately, Shaw said.

The firm will meet with the district first, before inviting community stakeholders to participate in a series of forums to help shape the search. The meeting with the district may come as early as next week, officials said.
According to the AASA, Fitts has worked in school districts for over 40 years as a school psychologist, principal and county superintendent.
Fitts has served as interim superintendent in the Mahwah, Burlington City, West Berlin, Glassboro, Camden and Willingboro public school districts.
Hazard, Young, Attea and Associates(HYA) is a network of independent education consultants across the nation, according to the firm's website. It has more than 30 years of executive search and education consulting experience.
