Moorestown Wants Your Social Media Attention

The town's new Facebook and Twitter accounts are connected to an overall focus on making information and services more readily available.

Social media—it's not just for cat videos and memes anymore. Moorestown recently launched two new accounts to stay connected with residents.

Moorestown's Facebook and Twitter accounts both kicked off this month and officials have posted tidbits of useful info (like when trash will be picked up because of the Fourth of July holiday), reminders of events and photos, including when the Wall That Heals came to town.

The one thing the accounts don't have so far is a lot of followers. The township Facebook page had 128 followers, while the Twitter page had 12 as of Friday evening. To follow the accounts, visit the Moorestown Township Facebook and Twitter pages.

Both pages are public and therefore accessible to view even for those without Facebook or Twitter accounts.

The nod to social media is part of a technology overhaul that may come to Moorestown soon. Township administer Scott Carew said officials are paying close attention to Monmouth University's rankings of municipal websites and looking for tips from the top towns and the website companies they use.

Moorestown's website grazed the top-third of all New Jersey towns in the study.

"My hope is to come up with a plan by the end of the summer and either completely revamp our current website, or perhaps look to go in a different direction with a company that has proven they know what they're doing in terms of creating a municipal website," Carew said.
