MTC Teens Get Creative In New Summer Show
"Broadway Teens" opened on Wednesday, July 10, at Hope Community Church.
MOORESTOWN, NJ — Moorestown Theater Company (MTC) Artistic Director Mark Morgan wanted to give his younger actors the chance to shine. So five years ago, MTC launched its Broadway Kids show. At the end of this year’s Summer Stage camp, MTC will present “Broadway Kids V.”
This week, MTC presents its first teen version of the show. “Broadway Teens” opened at Hope Community Church on Wednesday, July 10, 7 p.m. Whereas “Broadway Kids” gave actors ages 10 to 12 the chance to shine without teens in the show, “Broadway Teens” gives teenagers the chance to create their own show.
An adult provides the basis for the teens to follow, but the teens write the scripts and the intros, as well as to shoot and edit videos. It gives them the chance to be more creative, in addition to performing.

“They’re older, more experienced, more mature,” Morgan said. “We wanted to give them the chance to be more creative.”
Sixteen teens signed up for this year’s show. Morgan said he’s heard some of their friends wish they had signed up for the show. He expects more will sign up next year, and the show will continue to grow, just like “Broadway Kids.”
