Snow total estimates were reduced overnight since temperatures in South Jersey and at the Jersey Shore could rise above freezing. Here are the expected snow accumulations:

NWS forecasters had initially said that the storm would head south and directly toward the ocean, but the track shifted course to the north on Friday.

Here is what to expect:

  • Heavy snow possible. Total snow accumulations of over 6 inches possible.
  • WHERE...Portions of central, northern and southern New Jersey, southeast Pennsylvania, northeast Maryland and northern Delaware.
  • WHEN...From Sunday morning through Sunday afternoon.
  • IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult.

AccuWeather had considered two possibilities: A storm route that hugs the coast that spells the biggest snowstorm scenario for the Northeast, and a storm that charges out to sea that would bring little to no snow for the same areas. Confidence was growing on Thursday and Friday that it will likely take a path somewhere in between those two projections, AccuWeather said.

The heaviest snowfall is expected over the mountains of western North Carolina, which may see up to 15 inches of snow, according to Accuweather. If the storm intensifies as it moves over the Atlantic, western New England could see some heavier snowfall.

"Snowfall for much of the area from central Pennsylvania to the northern Hudson Valley of New York state is likely to be light with this event and on the order of a coating to an inch or two," AccuWeather Senior Storm Warning Meteorologist Brian Wimer said in the AccuWeather release.
