Perkins in Bloom for Art and Eco Campers

The vegetable garden is blooming at Perkins!

Just in time for Perkins Center’s Summer Art and Eco day camp, education assistant Samantha Salazar has prepared two raised beds that are producing fresh lettuce, parsley, tarragon, parsley, sage, tomatoes, peas, carrots, onions and more.

Additionally, Perkins Center has two plots that are growing more vegetables in the Moorestown Community Garden, originally the Victory Garden for the Perkins and D’Olier families. This is the first time in 47 years that food has been grown at the historic property.

“With all the rain, our crops are doing really well,” Salazar said. “We have an additional two beds that we’ll be planting with the campers once camp begins.”

The Perkins camp encompasses four, two-week sessions. Campers can enroll for one two-week session or for all four. Session one starts June 24.

Perkins Center’s Summer Arts and Eco Camp provides a fun, nurturing environment for children 4 ½ to 10 years old. They’ll spend time in arts studio sessions and be outdoors in the 5-acre arboretum where Perkins Center is situated, learning about nature and bringing that new knowledge to painting, sculpture, plays and songs. Professional teaching artists lead the creative sessions.

Some sessions are nearly sold out. To register your child for camp, or for more information, please call Samantha Salazar 856-235-6488 ext. 316, or Camp Director Kate Popelak ext. 304.
