Spotted Lanternflies In Moorestown: Search And Destroy
Moorestown is asking residents for their help identifying and destroying spotted lanternfly egg masses.
MOORESTOWN, NJ — Now that the snow has melted, we need your help to minimize the number of SLF egg masses! Egg masses contain 30-50 eggs and are covered by females with a mud-like gray substance which cracks over time and looks a bit like mortar. The insects are not picky in where they lay them – you may find masses on trees, fences, and outdoor furniture, among other objects. We need to eliminate as many as possible before they hatch in the spring!
The Moorestown Tree Planting and Preservation Committee would like to remind you that you can help by locating these egg masses on your own property, or as you walk around town, and destroying them! It is possible that eggs can survive if scraped onto the ground, so scrape egg masses into a bag or container with rubbing alcohol, hand sanitizer, or a bleach solution and dispose.
Every egg mass you scrape will cut down on the number of bugs bothering you this summer! If you have any questions, you can contact the Tree Committee at moorestowntrees@gmail.com.
