1 Dead, 4 Injured In 2 Separate New Brunswick Shootings

According to the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office, the two shootings happened hours apart but appear to be related.

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ — The New Brunswick Police Department and the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office are investigating two separate shootings that investigators believe are related to one another.

On Thursday around 10:47 p.m., authorities responded to the area of Gatling Court and Bergen Court at Robeson Village for a report of a shooting. Once on scene, officers said they found three victims with gunshot wounds.

They were transported from the scene for medical attention to a nearby hospital. Their conditions are unknown at this time.

About three hours later, on Friday around 2:08 a.m., police said they responded to a shooting on Easton Avenue between Hamilton and Condict Streets. After arriving to the location, they said they found two victims with gunshot wounds.

One victim, whose identity is being withheld pending notification to their next-of-kin, was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital, according to the prosecutor's office. Police said the other victim remains in stable condition.

Rutgers University police alerted students about the second shooting via social media. Campus police said in that shooting, the two victims were seated in a motor vehicle when a male suspect approached and fired a handgun at them in "a targeted act of violence."

The suspect fled the area in a vehicle. His description is limited at this time, university police said.

Both shootings remain under investigation.
