22nd Rabid Animal This Year Found In Middlesex County
The rabid raccoon was spotted in New Brunswick.
NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ-- A rabid raccoon was found in New Brunswick last week, county officials said, bringing the total number of rabid animals found in Middlesex County up to 22. This is the second rabid animal found in New Brunswick.
The raccoon was found in the area of Eason Ave and Hamilton Street acting strangely on Oct. 27. It was killed and sent to the NJ Department of Health for testing, and was found to have been rabies positive on Nov. 1.
No other domestic animals or humans are known to have been exposed to the rabid raccoon, but the county will be distributing rabies fact sheets to all who live in the area.

Residents are asked to remain vigilant for rabid animals in the area, and to report any strange behavior. Signs of rabies in animals include moving slowly, acting tame, appearing sick, having a hard time swallowing but an excess of saliva, biting at everything, and trouble moving.
