Abstraction may not be the most popular art movement. Sure, it has a loyal (and growing) base of practitioners, and you can see it in almost every upscale New York art gallery. Nevertheless, many artists and appreciators tend to keep their distance, perhaps because they feel intimidated by it, or because it requires an open mind and a big imagination. For Abraham Mashinsky, an abstract painter from New Brunswick, New Jersey, abstract art has a unique beauty that is often overlooked or forgotten due to the unrealistic nature of it. Those who reject abstract work are missing out on some of the most exciting and expressive works of art out there. Of course, abstraction presents a distinctly different way for artists to convey their ideas, but that's not all. It also expands your imaginative abilities, because it forces you to think about your ideas in ways that do not mimic the objective world, and it requires you to see it in unfamiliar ways. There is no better way to exercise your imagination than to free it from the limits of our everyday viewing experience.
