The month of June and summertime is actually the usual time for New Jersey's black bear population to move through Middlesex County, police in neighboring South Brunswick have said in the past. The bears are usually foraging for food or moving from one area to another in search of natural wooded corridors at this time of year.
There were two black bear sightings in South Brunswick on Sunday morning. Bears were spotted at multiple times between 7:30 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. on Sandhill Road, Savage Road, and Cambridge Road, all residential areas.

There was also a bear spotted running through Middlesex borough on May 25: Middlesex residents said they saw it scampering near Lucas Pizza on Harris Avenue at about 9 a.m. and walking up Raritan Avenue toward Ashland Road. That bear looked to be an average-size adolescent bear. It was also near Victor Crowell Park.
"It is important to understand that black bears reside in all 21 counties of New Jersey. Most bears avoid human contact and live in wooded areas away from residential neighborhoods," South Brunswick police said Sunday. "Within our community, most bear sightings are while they are moving from one area to another through natural wooded corridors."
