Chinese New Year falls on January 25 in 2020 and is the most important celebration in the Chinese calendar with many traditions. Some of the typical practices are: families gather together for dinner, eating dishes that symbolize good fortune and health; children wear new clothes and receive red envelopes with money that will bring them good luck for the upcoming new year; and everyone cleans up their clutter to "remove the old and welcome the new."

The Confucius Institute of Rutgers University (CIRU) was formed in partnership with Jilin University in China and with support from the Office of Chinese Language Council International (Hanban)/Confucius Institute Headquarters. CIRU aims to broaden Chinese language instruction, promote Chinese culture, spur the development of Chinese Studies, and advance a wide range of cultural exchanges of the U.S. and China.
