HIGHLAND PARK, NJ — The borough of Highland Park has a lot planned for Halloween. Organized by Main Street Highland Park, they have a jack-o-lantern contest planned for this Friday, Oct. 25 (sign up in advance and bring your carved pumpkin the day of). The town then has a range of activities for Halloween next Thursday, Oct. 31, including a pet costume contest, free showing of a scary movie plus the traditional trick or treating at Highland Park businesses:

Thursday, Oct. 31 Halloween:

Downtown trick-or-treating:
Head downtown after school, from 2:30 - 5:00 p.m., for some downtown trick-or-treating before heading out to trick-or-treat throughout Highland Park's neighborhoods!

Before you go door to door, get some free trick-or-treat tote bags for kids! Pick one up at 212 Raritan Avenue from 1-6 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 30 and 10-6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 31. Thank you to the following tote bag sponsors:

Dog costume parade on Oct. 31:
Dress up your pup and parade around town with the kiddos in the afternoon. Start at Robert's Florals at 5:30 p.m., walk in the parade to Pino's for the costume judging and prizes.

Showing of a scary movie:
The Highland Park Outdoor Movie Theater (in the lot next to 212 Raritan Avenue) is sheepishly proud to present a classic of the genre: "Re-Animator." This is hard "R" territory, friends, so grownups only! Movie starts at 9:30 p.m. on Oct. 31.
