Code Blue Continues into Thursday
New Brunswick's homeless may continue to use Elijah's Promise for overnight shelter from the cold.

A third night of Code Blue has been declared in New Brunswick.
"Code Blue" is issued in New Brunswick when temperatures fall below 20 degrees. Elijah's Promise will open its soup kitchen overnight to provide warm shelter and first responders will mobilize to make sure they locate people on the streets who need a warm place to stay.Â
Anyone in need of overnight shelter can to to the Elijah's Promise Soup Kitchen between the hours of 8 p.m. tonight, Wednesday, Jan. 8 through 7 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 9.Â
Transportation is available for those who cannot easily walk to the shelter. Call the Homeless Hotline at 2-1-1 or (877) 652-1148 to request assistance or alert emergency responders to a person on the street who may need help. Â
Those seeking a shelter with beds are asked to go to the nearby Ozanam Shelter at 20 Abeel St.
Warming stations will be also be open around New Brunswick on Thursday, including the New Brunswick Free Public Library and the New Brunswick Senior Center, according to a Nixle alert from the New Brunswick Police Department.Â
Elijah's Promise has also advised that it is in need of gently used winter wear for its clients, such as hats, gloves, scarves and coats.Â
Donations can be dropped off at the soup kitchen between the hours of 9 a.m.- 3 p.m. on weekdays and from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. on weekends, according to the organization.
Some respite from the bitter cold is on its way. Friday is expected to have a high around 42 degrees, leading into a warm weekend, according to the National Weather Service.Â
