Crime Down in New Brunswick, Decreases Noted in Rapes, Robberies and Murder
The Uniform Crime Report contains town-specific data regarding major and violent crimes.

Overall crime numbers in New Brunswick decreased between January 2012 and January 2013, with the largest drops in murder, rapes and robberies.Â
According to data contained in the 2012 Uniform Crime Report, 2,588 crimes were reported in 2012 versus 2,424 in 2013, a 6.3 percent decrease from year to year.
The Uniform Crime Report, compiled by the Department of Law and Public Safety, tracks reported crimes in seven categories, including murder, rape, robbery, assault, larceny, burglary and motor vehicle theft. It also counts the number of reported bias crimes, carjackings and domestic violence incidents.Â
In New Brunswick, robberies dropped from 134 in 2012 to 109 in 2013, according to the data.
The largest decrease was seen in the category of robberies involving knives or other sharp objects, from 32 incidents in 2012 to 21 in 2013, a 34.4 percent decrease.Â
Murders dropped from eight in 2012 to three in 2013, a 62.5 percent decrease from year to year.Â
Fewer burglaries were also reported in 2013, with 498 incidents in 2013 versus 557 in 2012, according to the data.Â
