Experience the Fun of Science During Faraday Lecture

The show will be presented at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6 and at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8.

The wonders of science will take center stage this weekend at the 16th annual Rutgers Faraday Christmas Children's Lecture.

The show is named for physicist Michael Faraday, who would give annual Christmas lectures to young people at the Royal Academy in London in the 1800's, featuring dazzling physics and chemistry experiments.

Rutgers University physics support specialist David Maiullo and Rutgers physics professor Mark Croft will showcase 90 minutes of physics and chemistry experiments with colorful, explosive and otherwise vivid effects, each with a full explanation of the science behind them.

The show will have three performances at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6 and at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8 at the Physics Lecture Hall on Busch Campus, 120 Frelinghuysen Road in Piscataway.

Free parking is available nearby in lots 53 and 53A, according to the university.

Admission is free. About an hour before each show, the lobby will be opened for attendees to visit exhibit tables, where Rutgers students and staff will give science demonstrations.

Early arrival is recommended, as the shows often fill to capacity. Overflow seating will be provided in a nearby classroom with a video link to the show, according to the release.

Additionally, the 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8 show will be broadcast on the university YouTube channel.
