Explore Makers Day At New Brunswick Library March 23
There will be a sewing craft, button making, Perler bead design and a station where kids can create a simple moving robot, plus much more!
NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ — The New Brunswick Free Public Library will participate in the fifth annual New Jersey Makers Day this Saturday, March 23. The library’s community room will serve as the NBFPL Makerspace from noon to 4:00 p.m., with an assortment of different Maker Stations.
The event is free and open to all ages.
This year, the NBFPL Makerspace is focusing on STEAM, introducing more tech-related programming in addition to our popular handcrafts. There will be a sewing craft, button making, and Perler bead design station which allow attendees to make and take something home. There will also be a bristlebot station where kids can create a simple moving robot.

From noon to 2:00, there will be a “tech dissection” station at which those interested can investigate the insides of an old computer, and from 2:00 to 4:00 there will be a Lego Mindstorm demo especially for youth.
An instructor from Stem Owl will provide two special STEM stations from 1:30 to 3:00: “Hands-on Engineering Make-and-Take Projects,” and “Video Game Design with Scratch Programming.” The first of these stations will have projects which explore electricity, such as building a circuit to light up an LED. At the second STEM station, attendees can experiment with Scratch, a graphical language designed to introduce computer coding and programming, to create meaningful and logical scripts for basic video game design.
