French Street Restaurant Robbed Friday

A robber showed a handgun, took cash and shot one person in the leg following a struggle, police say.

Camilo's Restaurant on French Street was the site of an armed robbery and shooting early Friday morning, police say.

Around 2 a.m. Friday, a black male entered the restaurant, located at 114 French St. armed with a silver handgun, according to a press release from the New Brunswick Police Department

The robber took a wallet from a person inside and money from the cash register, according to the release.

A struggle ensued between the suspect and two people inside the restaurant, at which point one person, a 38-year-old male from North Brunswick, was shot in the leg, according to the release.

The robber fled on Bayard Street in a black Nissan Maxima, according to the release.

The suspect is described as being large in stature, clean shaven and between the ages of 35-40. He was wearing a black North Face jacket and a tan hooded sweatshirt, according to the release. 

The victim was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. His injury is not life-threatening, according to police.
