Man Charged With New Brunswick Attempted Kidnapping
A local man was charged with trying to kidnap a woman at gunpoint on Easton Avenue in New Brunswick last Monday night, Jan. 25.
NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ — A local man was charged with trying to kidnap a woman at gunpoint on Easton Avenue in New Brunswick last Monday night, Jan. 25, said the Middlesex County Prosecutor's office.
Gary Prichard, 41, of New Brunswick was arrested Friday and charged with fourth-degree possession of an imitation firearm for an unlawful purpose and second-degree attempted kidnapping.
Police say that at 11:30 p.m. Jan. 25, Prichard drove up to the female victim as she was walking on Easton Avenue, between Bristol and Prospect streets. She told police a red four-door pickup truck pulled up alongside her and the male driver demanded she get inside. The driver pointed a handgun at her while he demanded she get into his truck.

When she refused, he fled the area.
Prichard was ultimately identified as the driver and owner of the truck, which was captured on camera as he fled the scene, said police. New Brunswick police later matched it to security camera footage of the pick-up at a local gas station. A starter pistol was also recovered from Prichard’s truck, said police.

Prichard was arrested Friday, Jan. 29.
Prichard is presently lodged at the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center where he is being held pending a pre-trial detention hearing in Superior Court next week.
