Man Shot at D'gala

Armando Rodriguez was shot in the leg early Sunday morning at D'gala.

A man was shot in the leg Sunday morning at a Commercial Avenue bar.

Police responded to a report of a shooting inside D'gala at 1:50 a.m. Sunday. On arrival, they found Armando Rodriguez, 29, of Bronx, N.Y. with a gunshot wound to the leg, according to a press release from the New Brunswick Police Department.

Patrolling officers were given a description of the suspect and soon after, arrested Tomas Flores, 21, of Bound Brook on Handy Street.

Flores was charged with Aggravated Assault, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, according to the release. He was found with a handgun tucked into the waistband of his pants.

Rodriguez was taken to treated at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital for the non-life threatening injuries.

A motive for the shooting is still under investigation.

By order of the city, D'gala must have a uniformed police officer on site between the hours of 10 p.m. and 2:30 a.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights, as the bar is a frequent subject of noise complaints from residents living in the area.

New Brunswick Police Cpt. J.T. Miller of New Brunswick said an officer was on duty outside the bar at the time of the shooting, leading to a quick arrest.
