NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ — Interest in U.S. women's soccer continues to skyrocket. Megan Rapinoe and her club team, Tacoma, Washington-based Reign FC, are coming to New Jersey in a few weeks. And tickets to the August 18 game, against Sky Blue FC in Piscataway, are in such demand that Sky Blue is now considering moving the game from Piscataway to the Red Bulls arena in Newark.

Reign FC will come to the New Brunswick area on August 18, where they will play against Sky Blue FC. Sky Blue FC is the professional women's soccer team partially owned by Gov. Phil Murphy and they play out of Piscataway, at Yurcak Field on the Rutgers campus.

New Jersey native Carli Lloyd — she was born in Delran — currently plays for Sky Blue. So this will be a Lloyd vs. Rapinoe match. Lloyd is a midfielder for Sky Blue, and Rapinoe is a forward and team captain for Reign FC. Rapinoe and the U.S. women's national soccer team just won the women's World Cup earlier this month in France. Lloyd was also on the 2019 team and she won the women's World Cup once before, in 2015. There is a third New Jersey element to the Aug. 18 game: Reign FC goalkeeper is Rutgers graduate Casey Murphy, who hails from Bridgewater.

Because tickets are nearly sold out for the August 18 game, Sky Blue sent out a tweet Tuesday morning asking fans if they would like the game moved to the Red Bulls arena in Harrison, which has much more seating.

"Since everyone #wontstopwatching, we can’t accommodate all the fans who want to come watch our August 18th match vs. @ReignFC. Should we move the game to Red Bull Arena so EVERYONE can come?," Sky Blue FC tweeted.

The Yurcak Field stadium can hold about 5,000 fans, MyCentralJersey reported. The much-larger Red Bulls arena in Harrison can seat about 25,000. No word yet on whether the match will officially be moved.
