In an attempt to get more people vaccinated, Middlesex County is opening mobile or drive-through vaccine clinics in three towns next week. They are:

  • Piscataway: Wednesday, June 16 at the former COVID testing site at 1 Ericsson Drive 1 - 3 p.m. This is a drive-through site where they will be giving out the Moderna shot.
  • Perth Amboy: Saturday, June 19 at the Perth Amboy train station: They will be giving out the single-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine from 10 - 2 p.m.
  • There will also be a mobile clinic at 249 Smith Street in Perth Amboy that same day, same hours.
  • Dunellen: Saturday, June 19: Giving out the Johnson & Johnson vaccine at the Dunellen train station (South Washington Avenue & Prospect Avenue) from 10-1 p.m.

As of Thursday, 50 percent of New Jersey's population has been vaccinated: 9.4 million doses have been given out and 4.5 million New Jersey residents are fully vaccinated.

These vaccine shots are available to anyone 18 and up, regardless of immigration status. Free of charge and no ID will be asked for.

Perth Amboy had some of the lowest vaccine compliance rates in the state: Data released in mid-May showed just 19 percent of Perth Amboy adults were fully vaccinated.

New Brunswick also has low vaccine rates: Only 15 percent of New Brunswick residents were vaccinated in mid-May; that number grew to 43 percent this week, according to Gov. Murphy.

Murphy still said 43 percent is on the low side, saying that towns with more than 10,000 residents should be above 50 percent vaccinated.

On May 24, New Jersey launched its first mobile vaccine van in New Brunswick, and the van has spent the past few weeks traveling the city's side streets and back neighborhoods, giving out the one-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine for free.
